St. Saviour’s - Building Community through Faith, Service, and Hope.

Verse of the Week: “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” Matthew 20:16

Thought for the Week: These words from the Gospel of Matthew are sometimes difficult for us to hear and even harder to understand. In this world in which all the attention seems to be given to the overachiever, the winner, the one with the most in life, the most resources, the most privilege, the urge to compete with each other seems relentless. It’s exhausting. But where does it all come from? The truth is that it’s entirely the result of our human ego. The drive to be first these days often seems to eclipse what it means to be the people we were actually created to be. Loving. Kind. Compassionate. Humble. I wonder what would happen if we all made it our goal this week not to be first at anything. Just to be present for those who need us to be there for them. And if that means we end up last in this endless race we have put ourselves in then so be it. Scripture reminds us that’s not such a bad place to be.
