Founded in 1918 as an Episcopal Church parish, St. Saviour’s offers everything you might expect from a beautiful place of worship. At the same time, we provide much more for the Old Greenwich community than just church services on Sunday mornings. Our nursery and dance schools—programs of the parish—extend our ministry to all who come to us regardless of their faith tradition. We believe this makes St. Saviour’s an inclusive church home that is open to all and a place where God can be encountered in every respect.
Like any community, our history informs our present. You might notice that our architecture seems more suited to the US southwest than to a beach town on the Long Island Sound. That’s because our founder, Father Baxter Liebler (who came from St. Paul’s Church in Riverside) felt called to ministry with the Navajos. Indeed, after building the chapel, the worship space and the rectory and serving St. Saviour’s for many years, Father Liebler ultimately left Old Greenwich and engaged in mission to the Navajos—learning their language, translating the Bible and bringing many to the Christian faith.
Father Liebler’s joy in the message of hope of Jesus Christ continues to infuse our enthusiastic welcome to our neighbors and friends. As Episcopalians, we reject indoctrination and embrace love—just as Jesus taught us to do. We understand that Saint Saviour’s exists as an integral part of Old Greenwich where many of those we serve are able to walk or bike to us. We love this sense of community, and we seek to be a place of refuge and not of judgment for our neighbors and friends all around us. We believe that once people enter our doors and see what the church is all about, they will decide to connect with us through our programs, worship or ministries.

We are descendants of and partners with the Church of England, Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world. We strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and respect the dignity of every person.

We believe in amendment of life, the forgiveness of sin, and life everlasting. Holy Communion may be received by all baptized Christians, not only members of the Episcopal Church.

We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being. Women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Lay people and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels in our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.
We celebrate our unity in Christ while honoring our differences, always putting the work of love before uniformity of opinion.
